Rathalos

The mighty Rathalos; known throughout the Old and New World as "The King of the Skies" is a large, fire-breathing Flying Wyvern and the male counterpart to the Rathian. These noble predators prefer the high elevations of mountains, volcanic regions, and forested areas; preying on anything it can overpower with it's well muscled legs and visciously sharp and strong talons. These talons are what make Rathalos unique to his counterpart; while Rathian have venomous barbs on their tails, Rathalos have venomous talons. In addition to their venom, Raths are well known for their superheated Fire Breath. During the breeding season, it is in fact the Rathians (the females) that compete amongst each other for the breeding rights with the male. The Rathalos will mate with the most powerful among the females, but are not monogomous. Rathalos are quite physically powerful among the flying wyverns, able to compete with and duel monsters that can weigh up to twice it's bodyweight.
